Our approach

Cledor’s fire wardens combine discipline with diplomacy. Every warden is trained not only to respond to alarms but also to detect and prevent risk through constant observation and engagement with residents.
We recognise that a waking watch is disruptive and costly – so our goal is to make it effective, proportionate and reassuring, never intrusive.

  • Our e-learning Fire Warden Course is CPD-accredited, recognised in over 100 countries – giving clients confidence that every Cledor warden has achieved a professionally validated level of competence.
  • The Fire Warden training is RoSPA-approved, having been appraised against RoSPA’s high standards for learning quality, technical content and compliance. It carries the RoSPA Qualifications “stamp of assurance”.
  • Each warden is DBS-checked, uniformed, radio-equipped and insured, and supported by 24-hour management oversight.

Frequently asked questions about our Fire Warden services

Fire wardens are typically needed when a building has temporary fire-safety deficiencies – such as combustible cladding, compartmentation breaches, or faulty alarms – and residents must be protected under Simultaneous Evacuation Guidance. They remain in place until permanent fire safety measures are restored and approved by the Fire and Rescue Service.

Cledor fire wardens perform continuous patrols, monitoring for smoke, fire or unsafe activity, and ensuring all escape routes remain clear. They liaise with residents, contractors and property managers, maintain digital fire logbooks and coordinate safe evacuation if an alarm sounds or fire or smoke are discovered.

Yes. All Cledor wardens complete structured training through the Cledor Training Academy, including:

  • Fire awareness and evacuation procedures
  • RoSPA-approved e-learning course
  • Vulnerable resident identification
  • Communication, de-escalation and customer service
  • Record keeping and report writing

Each warden is DBS-checked, uniformed, insured and supervised by a Cledor duty manager.

We can often deploy trained wardens within 24 hours of instruction. Cledor’s rapid-mobilisation framework includes pre-deployment induction, risk assessment, and immediate coordination with the building’s Responsible Person and Principal Accountable Person or their managing agent.

Resident reassurance is central to our approach. Wardens provide visible presence, answer questions and communicate clearly without causing alarm. We liaise closely with managing agents, RMCs, RTMs, freeholders and developers, supplying daily reports, incident logs and attendance records for compliance and audit purposes.

A waking watch is a temporary, human solution that provides constant patrols while a building’s automated detection or compartmentation is compromised. Once a compliant fire alarm system and fire-resisting construction are reinstated and approved, the waking watch can be safely withdrawn.

Fire wardens immediately implement the Simultaneous Evacuation Plan – alerting residents, assisting vulnerable occupants, directing people to safe assembly points, and liaising with the fire brigade. They ensure stairwells and exits remain unobstructed and record the sequence of events for post-incident reporting.

Yes. Our fire wardens coordinate seamlessly with concierge, security and caretaking teams, ensuring one joined-up approach to building safety. This cooperation improves communication, reduces duplication and ensures all staff understand emergency protocols.

Every assignment follows a site-specific Fire Safety Operating Procedure (FSOP).
Supervisors conduct random audits, digital patrol reports are time-stamped and daily briefings reinforce vigilance. Cledor’s procedures align with NFCC guidance, HSE expectations, and recommendations from the Fire and Rescue Service.

That depends on remediation progress. Fire wardens remain in place until the building’s permanent fire-safety systems are restored, tested and signed off by competent professionals. We can assist with handover documentation and provide a phased draw-down plan as safety risks reduce.
